Koh Chang is one of Thailands largest islands, a beautiful tropical island in the Gulf of Thailand close to the border of Cambodia. Koh Chang is far enough away from Bangkok that it doesn't see huge crowds of people visiting the island. It is still popular with loads of beautiful beach resorts.
Koh Chang (Elephant Island) has a great range of beach resorts along the many beautiful beaches. There are also loads of activities to do on the island including lots of water sports including some great scuba diving.
There are elephants on Koh Chang, brought over from the mainland as a tourist attraction for elephant trekking.
The most popular place to stay on Koh Chang is in any of the beach resorts along White Sand Beach (pic to the right). White Sand Beach is a long stretch of beautiful beach which is lined with hotels, beach resorts, restaurants and some great beach bars.

One of the most popular water sports on Koh Chang is scuba diving, with loads of interesting dive sites including the Ship Wreck dive site over the HTMS Chang navy ship which was sunk a few kilometers off the coast of Koh Chang to create a natural reef. You do need to be an Advanced scuba diver for this ship dive as the deck of the ship is at around 22 meters.
As well as the many dive sites around Koh Chang island, you can also do day trips to the Koh Rang National Marine Park as well as to the neighbouring islands of Koh Kood and Koh Mak.
There is plenty of marine life living under the water around Koh Chang. Some of the largest marine animals that you can see while diving around Koh Chang include the huge Manta Rays and Whale Sharks, the largest fish in the sea.

Koh Chang has a good range of restaurants. The most popular area with the highest concentration of restaurants is along White Sand Beach. There are loads of traditional Thai restaurants and a good selection of International restaurants including Italian, Steak houses, Chinese.

You can get to Koh Chang by car and then ferry transfer across to the island. From Bangkok it is around a 5 hour drive to the Ferry port with Ferries that you can drive a car onto to go over to the island. The ferry trip to Koh Chang takes around 30 minutes.
You can also fly from Bangkok to Trat airport which is on the mainland. Trat airport is only 15 minutes drive to the ferry terminal to get across to Koh Chang.
